No Longer Silent: French Silent Films

DATE: Thursday 3/26/26   TIME: 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Enjoy early French cinema brought to life through live music and community dialogue. This cinematic experience, presented in partnership with No Longer Silent, will feature four influential silent films: Georges Méliès’ fantastical Le Voyage dans la Lune, Germaine Dulac’s avant-garde Thèmes et variations, Alice Guy Blaché’s satirical The Consequences of Feminism, and Dimitri Kirsanoff’s poetic Brumes d’automne. Each film will be paired with a newly composed score performed live by local musicians Cash Langdon and Jackie Lo. Following the screenings will be a panel discussion led by Film Scholar and Co-Host of Substrate Radio’s Sleep in Cinema Gareth Jones.

No Longer Silent is a Birmingham-based film screening series that pairs historic silent films with original live accompaniment from local musicians to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Past programs have been presented at Seasick Records, O’Neal Library, AEIVA, Saturn, and Sidewalk Cinema. Each program concludes with a panel discussion led by local organizations, offering audiences the chance to engage in conversation and reflection inspired by the works on screen.
